Southern Charm: Charleston

back

My family (hubby, toddler and myself) just got back from one of my favorite southern cities… Charleston! It is the perfect mix of beach and small city feel with great food and local shopping! (Isle of Palm and Sullivan’s Islands are my favorite beaches)

Before checking into our hotel, we made a pit stop at Butcher and Bee known for their great sandwiches. The artisan sandwiches were spot on and got our vacation off to a great start!

Now onto the hotel! We stayed at Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms. The best part about this place is the options of accommodations. I feel as though it is the perfect family friendly destination because you can rent condos, houses or basic hotel rooms that come with the service of a hotel. For me, as a mom, it is important that I get a vacation too, so not having to do the dishes, make the beds and be on top of clean towels, makes it all worth it!

The resort has 5 pools, extensive tennis facilities, two golf courses, one of which is under multi-million dollar renovations. Oh, and did I mention steps from the beach! The ease of going back and forth was awesome! My 2-year-old daughter wanted time on the beach but when she got bored we headed to the pool, grabbed lunch, then back to the beach all within an easy few steps. Parents: make note, you can drink your frosty beer or margarita right on the beach, either bringing it yourself or having a waiter deliver it to you.

Outdoor pavilion with bar, two swimming pools and live entertainment… all overlooking the beach!

Since this was a family vacation I wasn’t expecting much nightlife. I was pleasantly surprised to walk down to the beach just before sunset with live music playing! We sat back, grabbed a drink and took in the ambience. If music isn’t your thing, there is an outdoor movie or BINGO set up on the lawn and other seasonal activities daily.

All in all, Wild Dunes is great for active couples, multigenerational families and young families.
