Five Honeymoon Destinations
(yes you can go on your honeymoon even in the COVID world)
Engaged couples…this is such a special and happy time in your life! It is filled with lots of congratulatories from friends and family. The air is filled with “When are you getting married” and “Where are you going on your honeymoon”
But we are in a pandemic. And that means you have to think differently when it comes to your honeymoon destination.
Since everyone’s situation (jobs, health and comfort levels) are different we know a honeymoon right after the wedding may not be ideal for you. So once you decide that you want to take a trip, you then need to decide if that trip will be a domestic or international one. There are varied restrictions that change often and are different for each place, domestic or international. It is best to check on travel.gov or your local government quarantine restrictions or hire a travel professional to help the planning process. From trips we have planned and cancelled and rebooked during this pandemic, people are most comfortable with resort setting. You get the honeymoon amenities you want, but you have a home base that you feel comfortable with the restrictions they have in place.
Yes, you can still (and should) go on a honeymoon.
It makes sense that honeymoons are celebrated in a relaxing setting, even amidst covid. It is important to get authentic advice, not just a randos advice from trip advisor. You want a professional (aka travel agent) to help you navigate the restrictions so you know exactly what you are getting. I mean who wants to get to the destination and you feel as though it doesn’t meet YOUR safety standard? Or what if you get to the destination but didn’t realize there is a restriction not allowing you to do a specific activity? Not to worry… I have gathered up a few places where you can relax and still enjoy yourself! The following places are honeymoon approved and accept US citizens.
Honeymoon Destinations
Mexico: This honeymoon destination has a wonderful culture, amazing food (tacos for days) and yummy drinks (margs, anyone?) I love this destination because it offers easy social distancing in an all inclusive setting. Riviera Maya, Cabo and Puerta Vallarta have some of the best all-inclusives. By staying at an all inclusive you can social distance, stay at a resort to limit your contact traces and truly relax.
Protocols: masks in common areas, no negative covid test required at this time.
Hawaii has opened for tourists (anyone that doesn’t reside on the islands). They do require a negative covid test which is being offered by certain airlines free of charge.
Protocols: fill out health form and upload negative covid test
“Travelers are encouraged to enter their information, details and COVID-19 test result in advance of their flight. Once their health information is entered 24 hours before departure, travelers receive a QR code via email. The QR code on their mobile device or printed on paper gets scanned by the airport screener upon arrival.” (Hawaii Tourism Board, Nov 2020)
Caribbean: If you reside on the east coast, this is a great honeymoon destination because the flights are relatively short and many are direct. The caribbean does vary with their restrictions and open factors. Jamaica, St. Lucia, Dominican Republic have the most all inclusive options and have been welcoming tourist for months.
Protocols: Travel Authorization forms uploaded, negative PCR covid test (home kits not accepted) and travel Insurance.
Costa Rica: It is easy to get here but the beauty of nature makes it hard to leave. If you love the outdoors and natures wonders this honeymoon destination is for you. It is relatively easy to get there; there are various accommodations (rustic tree houses, all inclusive resorts). Travel agents can help you put the itinerary together so you can have a safe and seamless experience getting from one place to another.
Protocols: uploaded health assessment and travel insurance (specific requirements in case you need to quarantine)
French Polynesia: This is the most dreamest place and lust-worthy destination. Celebrities and TV reality shows have created an image of a perfect honeymoon and most engaged couples agree. The secluded and dreamy islands are top of lists. Though not cheap the islands are open.
Protocols: You can fly to Bora Bora but you must need a negative covid test within 3 days of approval and upload your health assessment.
If you are an engaged couple, you should have plenty of options to get you dreaming of an amazing honeymoon. It can be daunting with information overload and so many options so we recommend using a travel agent to help you navigate the destination and resort selection process.
