When To Visit Costa Rica

Costa Rica has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: the dry season (December to April) and the rainy season (May to November). While the dry season is generally the best time to visit, the rainy season can still be enjoyable and offer its own unique experiences. With multiple micro-climates, the weather can be very different from region to region. In addition to the weather, planning your travel around events and festivals can elevate your travel experience.

The dry season in Costa Rica (December to April)

This is the peak tourist season, with the largest crowds and highest prices.

The weather is typically dry and sunny, making it an ideal time for beach activities and outdoor adventures.

Reservations for accommodations and activities should be made well in advance to ensure availability.

Rainy Season In Costa Rica (May to November)

-This is the rainy season, with frequent downpours and fewer tourists.

-Prices are generally lower than in high season, and there may be discounts available for accommodations and activities.

-While some outdoor activities may be limited due to the rain, visitors can still enjoy indoor activities and cultural experiences.

Festivals and Events:

To experience the vibrant culture, consider planning your visit around festivals. The Fiestas de Palmares in January, the National Orchid Exhibition in March, and the vibrant Independence Day celebrations in September are just a few events that showcase the rich heritage of Costa Rica.

Who should visit Costa Rica?

We recommend that Costa Rica is the perfect destination for adventure seekers. There is plenty of boat rides, hiking, night hiking, animal hunting, bird watching to name a few activities. As travel agents we love to plan amazing trips for honeymooners that want to have that adventure but also relaxation which you can do at one of the many beaches. If families are interested in exploring, we think that children should be at least 5 years old. The many zip line and water sports have age requirements. If you are an animal enthusiast then Costa Rica is a perfect destination for you! There are so many sloths and specious of birds that will leave you excited and wanting more!

What To Know Before You Go

  • Currency: The currency used in Costa Rica is the Costa Rican colón (CRC). While some places may accept US dollars, it's always best to have some local currency on hand, especially if you plan on traveling outside of major tourist areas.
  • Transportation: Getting around Costa Rica can be challenging due to its rugged terrain and limited infrastructure. Many visitors choose to rent a car, but it's important to note that road conditions can be difficult and GPS is not always reliable. Alternatively, there are shuttle services, public buses, and private transfers available.
  • Language: Spanish is the official language of Costa Rica, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. Learning a few basic phrases in Spanish can be helpful for communicating with locals and immersing yourself in the culture.
