Abby and Nick had a private legal ceremony near their home in the U.S. but also wanted to throw a destination wedding to celebrate with their family and friends. After struggling to narrow down the sheer number of resorts available, they reached out to The Travel Mechanic to help plan it. We sent them a short list of some of our favorite resorts in Mexico and finally landed on the UNICO Hotel for the wedding weekend of their dreams!
Mexico Destination Wedding Planner
Nick and Abby had one main priority for their wedding weekend – fun! These two love a good party, and it was important to them that their resort was a good fit for that energy. They knew that they didn’t want any kids attending and that they’d like to have the wedding in Mexico, but there were so many options! About a week after our initial call, I had a short list of resorts that fit their description. We went through them together, and UNICO Hotel was an immediate standout on that list. With a swim-up pool or balcony bathtub in each room, plus a modern look and amazing pricing, choosing the UNICO Hotel was a no-brainer.
Nick and Abby’s UNICO Hotel Wedding
When their wedding weekend finally arrived, Nick and Abby started off the weekend with a White Party. All their guests came dressed in head-to-toe white and partied the night away! They watched fireworks through the palm trees and welcomed each of their guests to this tropical paradise.
On the morning of their wedding, Abby and Nick decided to have a private First Look on their balcony overlooking the ocean. This was such a sweet moment and a great way to calm any nerves before walking down the aisle! They popped some champagne and took family portraits while their guests made their way down to the ceremony space.
UNICO Hotel has a gorgeous ceremony space with a view of the ocean, and it was the perfect fit for Abby and Nick’s big day. Guests were provided with umbrellas for shade, and the aisle was decorated with beautiful arrangements of tropical greens and white roses. As a fun addition, instead of a flower girl, the Best Man walked down the aisle tossing mini liquor bottles to the guests. Abby and Nick then exchanged vows and sealed it with a shot of tequila and a kiss – the perfect way to kick off a party!
Unsurprisingly, Abby and Nick’s reception was an absolute blast. The dance floor was packed, drinks were flowing, and everyone was grinning from ear to ear. Of course, that Mexico heat is no joke, and at the end of the night, Abby decided to jump in the pool wearing her dress! Nick wasn’t far behind, and soon the pool was full of guests in their formal attire.

“We knew we wanted to have a destination wedding, but after looking at a few venues online, we really weren’t sure where to start. I got Lauren’s info from a mutual friend who was also having a destination wedding, and I’m so glad I did! Lauren helped us pick our venue (which ended up being amazing and we never got a chance to visit before the wedding!) offered helpful advice, and made the whole process so easy. I know she was also a huge help to our guests whenever they needed any travel assistance. Working with Lauren/the Travel Mechanic is a no brainer if you’re having a destination wedding!” – Abby
